The New Medicine Service 01 (NMS) is an Advanced Service in the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework 02 which supports the NHS medicines optimisation strategy 03 in England
It is thought that between a third and a half of all medicines prescribed for long term conditions are not taken as recommended. The costs of this to patients, the healthcare system and society are both personal and economic. 04
The New Medicine Service is designed to: 05

Empower people to take responsibility for their own care.
Most pharmacists have already delivered the service, however there is an opportunity to support even more patients, provide increased professional satisfaction and additional income for the pharmacy.
